There’s a chap on the ABSold volunteer team that you don’t hear much from on these pages. He is, in fact, the man responsible for our YouTube output! Tiger tells you his top five for 2014.
#5 Far Cry 4
I am surprised as you are that I put a Ubisoft game into my top five list of games this year considering you know what (*points at Unity*). The new addition to the Far Cry series had me on edge the whole time. Taking out an outpost and not getting detected gave me a massive sense of accomplishment although that happened rarely considering I have the stealth abilities of a beached whale so i mostly took out my grenade launcher and exploded everything. Besides all the death and pillaging I brought upon a ton of poor souls driving around the beautiful world of Kyrat was exciting and whenever I saw a mountain I wanted to go to it and explore. The only issues i had with the game were that sometimes the grass decided it was magic and floated on a side of a mountain and some of the textures were a bit off.
Other than that it deserves it’s spot as my #5 game of the year.
#4 Crypt of the NecroDancer
I love rougelikes and I love music and Crypt of the NecroDancer was the perfect combination of the 2. This game was unique in 2014 because i’ve never seen a rougelike combined with DDR before. And they pulled it off well. Even in early access this game had me playing it in no time going through the levels while rocking out to some awesome music. The only problem i had with the game is that i raged quite fast after missing a beat and dying inevitably. Since the game is still in early access I Expect a lot more awesome things to come! It receives a well deserved #4 spot
#3 Road Redemption
Aaaah Road Redemption. The spiritual rebirth of one of my childhoods favorite games Road Rash
(I was a weird kid). Kicking people off bikes never felt so satisfying and now with the remake having about a bajillion more weapons The game got me hooked instantly. I kind of missed the weird messed up style of the old Road Rash but they definitely nailed the gameplay. Seriously though, knocking someone over the head with a shovel never felt so good. For that it receives a solid #3 spot in my top 5 games of the year
#2 Next Car Game: Wreckfest
From the creators of the Flatout games comes Wreckfest. I will admit at first i was pretty skeptical about the game when i first heard about it until i got my hands on the technology sneak peek. Before the racing or derbys even came out I was hooked instantly. The game has an amazing damage engine to not
only the cars but to almost everything in the world. (Except trees. Trees are always immortal in video games.) The cars feel heavy and when you crash it doesn’t feel like you threw a tin foil into a wall but it feels like it should. When the multiplayer came out recently me and my friend spent 1 – 2 hours a day just smashing into each other making our cars look like they belonged in a junk yard. Since the game is still in early access I expect a lot of awesome new things to come out. And considering that this game got #2 place in my top five list while still in early access says a lot about the game. And when it comes out I expect the game to still be #2 in my top five list. (Because GTA V for PC will take #1 :P)
#1 The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
The remake of The Binding of Isaac + Wrath of the lamb DLC receives the number #1 spot in my top 5 games
this year. Since the release of the game I have played 113 hours of it, 20 of those I played in
the first week of it’s release. There is so much content in this game that even after these 100 hours
I am still finding new items, secrets, etc. Comparing it to the first Binding of Isaac, Rebirth has about
twice as many features which means it’s not only a remake but also a massive upgrade. Despite the nature
of it’s story the game is colorful and it looks great. And that’s not even the best part. After the
holidays the creators of the game are planning on creating and releasing a DLC which is going to add
DOUBLE THE CONTENT in Rebirth. Which means buying Rebirth + DLC when it comes out will give you quadruple
the content if compared to the original Binding of Isaac + Wrath of the lamb DLC. That’s insane and I
can’t wait ti’ll it comes out. I seriously recommend this game to anyone that is a fan of difficult games.
In fact after i’m done writing this I’m going to play Rebirth some more.
